The Canadian Rockies don't need a filter. Neither do you. We've spent over a decade learning how to disappear into a room — and how to find the light before it's gone.

Why Heidrich in Banff

The mountains are the backdrop.

There's a reason couples fly in from New York, London, and Tokyo to get married in Banff. The light is unlike anywhere else. The scale is humbling. The stillness, right before your ceremony begins, is something photographs can actually hold onto.

We've photographed weddings at the Fairmont Banff Springs, intimate elopements on the shores of Vermilion Lakes, and everything in between. What we've learned: the mountains don't make the photographs. The people in front of them do.

Years in the Rockies

We know where the light falls in October. We know the Fairmont's hidden staircases. We know how to read a Banff sky.

Banff Wedding

- the honest guide

Banff National Park is one of the most photographed places on earth. It's also one of the most logistically complex places to get married. We've navigated all of it: permits, timing, crowd management, weather contingencies - so you don't have to.

Everything You Need to Know

Do you need a permit to photograph in Banff National Park?

Yes. Parks Canada requires a Commercial Photography and Filming permit for any professional photography conducted within Banff National Park, including wedding photography. We handle this entirely - it's included in our Banff packages. You never need to think about it.

What's the best time of year for a Banff wedding?

Every season in Banff is exceptional - and every season is different. Summer (June–August) offers lush green valleys and the longest golden hours. Fall (September–October) brings larches turning gold - objectively one of the most beautiful natural events in Canada. Winter delivers dramatic snow-covered peaks and cozy Fairmont interiors. Spring is quiet, raw, and honestly underrated. We photograph year-round and we'll tell you honestly what to expect in any season.

Can you photograph at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel?

Yes. We've photographed weddings at the Fairmont Banff Springs many times. The property has specific areas for photography and preferred vendor relationships - we navigate all of this seamlessly. The grand staircase, the lower terrace at golden hour, and the grounds facing Sulphur Mountain are among our favourite spots on the property.

How far in advance should we book?

Do you travel from Calgary to Banff?

For Banff weddings, we recommend reaching out 12–18 months in advance. Peak summer and fall larch season dates fill fastest. That said, if you're planning something closer — reach out anyway. We occasionally have openings, and we'll always be honest about availability.

Yes. Our studio is based in Okotoks/Calgary, and Banff is a regular part of our world. Travel is included in our Banff packages - no surprise fees. We arrive early, we know where to park, and we've driven the Bow Valley Parkway at every hour of the day.

"David has an amazing eye for detail curating the perfect shots during the portraits, ceremony, reception and dance party during our celebration at the Banff Springs Hotel. Not to mention on a personal level what fantastic people they are."
