Kananaskis, late summer
Kananaskis Country spans over 4,000 square kilometres of mountain wilderness. Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, Eau Claire Retreat, Mount Engadine Lodge - these are venues that attract couples who want the mountains without the tourist infrastructure.
We've photographed K-Country through every season and at elevations most wedding photographers never see. No permits required (unlike Banff National Park), more flexibility, and landscapes that are genuinely jaw-dropping.

If you want the epic views without ending up all sweaty for your photos, Kananaskis is the place for you!

Kananaskis sees a fraction of Banff's visitors. That means empty trails, quiet lakes, and portraits with actual space in them.

Closer than Banff, and often more practical for Calgary-based guests. Great food, great accommodation, great mountains.
K-Country is genuinely underrated as a wedding destination. No national park permits, closer to Calgary, and landscapes that rival anything in Banff. Here's what couples ask us most.
Everything You Need to Know
Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge is the most popular - grand, well-serviced, and set right in the mountains with stunning ceremony locations on the grounds. Mount Engadine Lodge is smaller and more intimate, with a backcountry feel that couples who want something genuinely off the beaten path love. Eau Claire Retreat is great for larger guest lists and has flexibility for outdoor ceremonies. And honestly, K-Country itself, Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, Spray Lakes, Elbow Falls - offers wild, unpermitted portrait locations that are breathtaking.
About 60–80 minutes from central Calgary depending on your destination within K-Country. That's significantly closer than Banff (90 minutes) and makes it much more practical for Calgary-based guests who are driving in for the day. Travel from our studio in Okotoks is included in all Kananaskis packages - no added fees.
Exceptional, and genuinely underexplored as a winter wedding destination. Pomeroy Lodge has incredible cozy interiors - timber, fireplaces, warm light — and the snow-covered mountain landscapes outside are dramatic. The light in winter Kananaskis is remarkable: low, golden, soft. Fewer tourists means more portrait freedom. Winter couples who choose K-Country always come away with something unique.
Yes, and Kananaskis makes this especially easy. No permit requirements means we can move freely. A common approach: ceremony at Pomeroy Lodge, portraits at Spray Lakes or in the surrounding meadows, then back to the venue for reception. We build your timeline around the light and the locations that make the most sense for your day.
We take limited weddings each year. Not because we're precious about it — because we believe the best work comes from photographers who are fully present, not exhausted.
