If Lake Louise is famous, Moraine Lake is transcendent. The Valley of the Ten Peaks. The colour that doesn't look real. We know exactly how to photograph it — and exactly when to be there.

The photograph that made it

Moraine Lake is one of the most photographed locations in North America - and for good reason. The glacially-fed teal water. The iconic rockpile viewpoint. The Valley of the Ten Peaks rising in every direction.

Getting the images you've been saving to your Pinterest board requires knowing exactly when to arrive, where to stand, and how to navigate the seasonal access restrictions. We've done this dozens of times. We know all of it, and we make it easy.

Shuttle & Access Experts

Moraine Lake road access is restricted seasonally. We handle logistics, permits, and timing so you don't have to.

The questions every couple

Everything about Moraine Lake

Can you have a wedding or elopement at Moraine Lake?

Yes, with the right permits and planning. Parks Canada requires a Commercial Photography permit, and for ceremonies in the park, there are guidelines around gathering sizes and locations. We've navigated all of this for couples. The logistics are real but very manageable. We handle everything.

What's the deal with road access restrictions?

The Moraine Lake Road is seasonally closed to private vehicles (typically from mid-June through mid-October). Access is by Parks Canada shuttle, bicycle, or on foot. We plan around this - knowing the shuttle schedule, arriving before private vehicle restrictions kick in during shoulder season, and making the logistics completely invisible to you.

When is the best time for a Moraine Lake session?

Sunrise, no question. The lake transforms at first light — the water is mirror-still, the colour intensifies, and the crowds haven't arrived. Larch season (late September–early October) is the most spectacular time of year anywhere in the Rockies. The golden larches against the teal water is genuinely one of the most beautiful things we've ever photographed.

Can we do portraits AND a ceremony at Moraine Lake?

Yes, many couples choose to elope here with a small ceremony on the rockpile and portraits along the lakeshore. We work closely with officiants familiar with park guidelines to make this seamless. Let us know your vision and we'll build a plan around it.
