Engagement sessions are one of the most underrated parts of the whole wedding experience. They're a chance to get comfortable in front of a camera, figure out what you actually like, and get photographs that aren't about the wedding - just about you, right now, in this specific chapter of your lives.

Why you should actually do this

Here's what no one tells you about

Most couples have never had professional photographs taken before their wedding day. That's a lot of pressure to get comfortable in front of a camera, learn to trust your photographer, and actually enjoy yourself - all on the most important and logistically intense day of your life.

The couples who do an engagement session first? Their wedding galleries are measurably better. Not because the scenery is better or the light is better - because they walk into their wedding day already knowing us, already knowing what relaxed looks like on them.

to feel them in every frame.

Camera Comfort

By your wedding day, you'll already know what "natural" looks like. You'll know how to hold your hands. You'll forget we're there.

01

Trust Established

Weddings run better when couples trust their photographers. Engagement sessions build that trust - we figure out your dynamic, your humour, what makes you both laugh.

02

Photographs Worth Having

The photographs from a great engagement session are genuinely beautiful in their own right. They document who you were the year you got engaged. That is worth having.

03

Location Scouting

Many couples use their engagement session at a location they're considering for wedding portraits. See it before the day. Know it works.

04

The locations that make

Where we take you

engagement sessions extraordinary

The Valley of the Ten Peaks. The colour of the water that doesn't photograph correctly - it's more than that, and somehow we still get it. We arrive at sunrise, before anyone else, and photograph in the kind of light that turns ordinary moments into extraordinary images.

→ Best at sunrise, April–October

→ Parks Canada permit included

→ Access logistics handled by us

Moraine Lake
Engagement Session

The Most Spectacular Option

That turquoise. The glacier. The hotel in the background that looks like it was designed specifically to be in the background of your engagement portraits. Lake Louise at sunrise is genuinely one of the most beautiful places on earth, and we know exactly how to photograph it.

→ Sunrise sessions strongly recommended

→ Fairmont Chateau available as backdrop

→ Permit included, travel included

The Iconic Choice

The Three Sisters are always behind you. The Bow River is always nearby. Canmore has a rawness to it - it doesn't feel curated, it just feels like the mountains. Great for couples who want dramatic but not tourist-brochure.

→ No national park permits required

→ 90 minutes from Calgary

→ Year-round, all weather types

The Local Favourite

Not every couple wants mountains in their engagement portraits. Calgary has a great east village, beautiful river pathway, and architectural pockets that photograph beautifully in evening light. If you want something more urban, more editorial - we do that too, and we love it.

→ East Village, Fish Creek, Reader rock garden

→ Sunset & blue-hour specialty

→ No travel fees

City Sessions Available

Vermilion Lakes at golden hour. The meadows below Tunnel Mountain. The Bow River with Cascade Mountain reflecting in the water. Banff has dozens of extraordinary engagement locations that most photographers never find. We know all of them.

→ Multiple locations in one session

→ Golden hour timing included in planning

→ All permits managed

Surprise proposal photography

The one where they don't

We've coordinated hundreds of surprise proposals. The logistics are real - you need a photographer who knows the location, knows how to stay hidden until exactly the right second, and knows how to be ready for whatever happens when your person turns around.

We're very good at this. We've done proposals at Moraine Lake at sunrise, at Vermilion Lakes at sunset, at the top of Tunnel Mountain, and in quiet corners of Calgary parks. We know how to position, how to hide, and how to capture the moment your lives change.

Here's how an engagement

The session experience

session actually works

The Conversation

We talk about your vision, your location ideas, what you want from the session, and what you're nervous about. We've heard every answer. We'll help you figure out what's right for you.

02

Location + Timing

We plan around the best light for your chosen location. Mountain sessions are almost always sunrise. City sessions are golden hour or blue hour. We build a loose timeline and show up prepared.

03

The Session Itself

We give you loose direction at the start to get comfortable, and then we step back and let things happen naturally. We're looking for the moments between the poses - the laugh, the look, the quiet.

04

Gallery Delivery

Fully edited, high-resolution images in your private gallery within 2–3 weeks. Print-ready files, yours forever. Typical sessions yield 75–150 images depending on length and coverage.

05

Before the Wedding

You've now seen us under low-pressure conditions. You know what working with us feels like. You walk into your wedding day with us as people you already trust.

What to Wear

We send every couple a full styling guide for their session location - colours that work with mountain backgrounds, what to avoid, how to coordinate without matching. It takes five minutes to read and makes a noticeable difference.

01

"We did our engagement session at Moraine Lake and it completely changed how we felt about having our photos taken. By the wedding day, we actually forgot David and Breanne were there."
